Khaled Sabsabi
Australia Council National Community Artist in Residence

Sydney based sound artist Khaled Sabsabi was the last artist in residence at the Pilot Station. His field of practice is sound and audio recording techniques in the area of Hip Hop music and the creation of unique soundscapes.

Khaled has completed a two year Australia Council fellowship in the Middle East and been practicing his art for approximately 16 years. During his extensive work with communities in Western Sydney he has been an innovator in the area of community cultural development, youth, migrant and hip-hop, pushing the boundaries of hip hop as a music form.

In the Hastings Khaled worked with community groups and the general public to explore local sounds, with emphasis on “the unheard” through community workshops and site-specific sound work. Workshops explored creativity in sound as well as the idea of creating a story without use of voice.
