Pilot Station Report to Friends July 2010

Dear Friends,

Computers are like lawn mowers – great when they work.  Our internet has been playing up and I will have a new address by the end of the week. Pilotstation@chace.org.au  The old address will be relayed to the new one for about a month.

Upcoming Events at the Pilot Station
The third workshop from our Botanical Artist, Gillian Scott on July 24 and 25.  These workshops are proving to be very valuable to the participants who are trying to organise another one in October.

Belly dancing to wellbeing-A one day workshop to learn the secrets of the sensual healthy way to improve your core body strength, pelvic floor, balance and more. All participants will receive a fringed hip belt to accentuate their shimmies, and be taught a traditional group veiled wedding dance.  A middle eastern lunch will be served and a very special day is promised on Sunday 12 September 10am-4pm
Nadine Rose and Fiona Wyllie will facilitate this very special day.  The all inclusive cost is $90 with a maximum of 20 participants.  Bookings essential 65596699

Maintenance
Phil Vercoe will paint the exteriors of all the buildings at the Pilot Station.  The cottage will be out of action for 3 weeks and while he is painting boatshed, garage and signal shed people can book the cottage if they want.  PMHC is providing some financial assistance with this project.

Accommodation
Word of mouth and serendipity have meant that the cottage is being booked even in winter time this year.  The reports from guests have been positive about their comfort levels.  The College donated a couple of oil filled heaters and these are good back ups.  We have a port-a-cot which can be rented for those guests with very young children.

Environment
Landcare has recommenced and has already clocked up 100 hours of volunteer work this year.  They have noticed that a tuckeroo tree has been chopped down and there are some semi advanced trees looking decidedly ill.  We are monitoring the area as it looks like view enhancement for a Camden Head resident.

The rest of the area is looking very good indeed with fresh regrowth of natives being enjoyed by the wildlife . If you would like to assist this dedicated team, they meet each Tuesday at 8.30 outside the garages and work until about lunch time.

History
We are awaiting the completion and installation of the new signs which will explain some of the history of the Pilot Station area.  These signs will used in conjunction with a brochure providing information for a self guided tour. Work has commenced on rewriting this brochure.
